The free charge point was very busy at Heathrow. It’s a pity the wifi wasn’t similarly priced. (currently at KL International Airport, where it is free – we’ll be landing back in Perth in just over 6 hours!)

Not for Resale (March 2012)

29 Mar

We had a lovely dinner catching up with A and R last night at Bonds Restaurant last night. The restaurant was moderately flash – the dining room was grand and spacious, the 3 course set menu was pretty reasonable, and the service was very good. However, we’re not so sure about the bottle of wine we ordered – it tasted fine, but should they have sold it to us… ?

On our last evening in Cambridgeshire we did a jigsaw! We finished the national geographic map in 4-5 hours, with a break in the middle to see the Hunger Games, which we both enjoyed. I thought it reflected the book pretty weel and I was very impressed with Jennifer Lawrence. Now we’re in Lomdom and will be catching up with friend at Bonds Restwaurant – just down the road from the Bank of England!

Cafe Oz ( March 2012)

27 Mar

All major cities have an Irish Pub, but it’s also been my experience that most major cities also have an Australian pub. London has at least 3 that I’ve been to (sadly). They’re typically green and gold, serve average Australian beer, and have a food menu of generic items with Aussie-fied names. Sadly, it seems Paris has several of these establishments. Cafe Oz was slightly redeemed by the Collingwood 1990 Premiership poster just inside (see top photo).

We brought along a set of boomerang fridge magnets to give to BF’s relatives as we visited them, and then decided we would stealth gift them – by leaving them on the fridge with a thank you note and seeing how long it took for them to be found. Three have been successfully deployed to date…

Yesterday we visited Bristol for lunch! A 4+ hour round trip is a long way to go for lunch, but I wanted to see an old housemate. We took the scenic route there, which was scenic but slllllloooow so we took the motorway back. Desire being almost 30 miles longer, the return trip was almost 1 hr shorter! Still, I’m glad to have caught up with my friend and the cafe we went to for lunch was *excellent*.

Today I shared the back seat of the car with Milly. She was mostly well behaved (as was I…)

I got these postcards from a bouquiniste (river-side book stall), on the Left Bank of the Seine, near the Notre Dame. I didn’t get to a post office in Paris, but I’ve just popped in to the local post office here…

Grand Designs house (March 2011)

Grand Designs: Nappy Clad Straw House

If you squint, you may be able to recognise part of this Straw House,  which featured in the first series of Grand Designs.  It’s on the train line, just north of Kings Cross Station. The side facing the railway is covered in sandbags (as featured in the second photo of the link).

This is the dessert from my birthday dinner at Pramil (, strawberries with cucumber and olive oil icecream. It was an amazing combination.
