I’m not 100% sure, but the pot of vegemite I finished last week *may* have preceded me meeting BF. Even if that wasn’t the case, it’s still very rare that I need to buy a new pot. Here’s my latest pot, just before I tuck in.
New Trees in Town (Jan 2012)
22 JanEarlier in the week the two citrus trees I ordered – a kaffir lime tree (left = what I actually wanted to buy) and a native Desert Lime (right = random splurge purchase to justify postage) – arrived in the mail. I repotted them this weekend and, instead of buying new pots for them, I decided to use some of the foam boxes I have lying around. I’m getting a foam box weekly at the moment, as that is what my veges are being delivered in. We are stockpiling most of them as it does seem a shame to throw them out. I have one full of lettuces (the most successful lettuces I’ve ever grown TBH), and another with tomatoes and chillies. If anyone would *like* a foam box (with lid!), do let me know!
Trevi Fountain (Sept 2003)
21 JanOne of my favorite places in Rome was the Trevi Foutain at night (in Summer). It’s busy, but the atmosphere is very serene, with the crowd buzzy rather than too overwhelming. Also, there’s a great gelateria just around the corner…
Garage Door (June 2009)
20 JanIn 2009, I was lucky enough to secure a seat at a live taping of The Colbert Report in New York City. The guests were nothing special that night, but I did manage to get screen time (via shots of the audience) twice during the episode.
Most recently, Colbert has taken to running for the American Presidency. It is well worth watching.
My Grandmother’s Biscuit Jar (Jan 2012)
19 JanWhen my grandparents were downsizing from their house to a retirement home, they got rid of a lot of possessions. One of the items I expressed an interest in was my Grandmother’s biscuit jar – not because of any monetary value, but because of the strong memories I have of it in my grandparents house (It normally had Salada or Premium crackers in it). And somewhat unexpectedly I got it! I’ve had it for a couple of years now, and most of the time it doesn’t have crackers in it. However, thanks to GJ’s gift of matzos, and my recent pantry cleanout, I am cracker compliant at the moment and I thought I should celebrate the fact.
Chillis (Jan 2012)
18 JanI planted these chillis some months ago and am looking forward to see what chillis end up being produced from the plant. This is mostly becasue I planted two different types of chilli seeds in this container (one at each end), and one lot never came up. Becasue I never labelled my ends, I’ve never known which lot didn’t sprout!
Pineapple Top (Jan 2012 and April 2008)
17 JanI thought planting a pineapple top would be an easy way to free pineapples. Then I read that it takes at least 2 years for a pineapple to grow. Almost 4 years on, I still have no sign of a pineapple, but am impressed with how much it’s grown. Also, I always seem to get the best tomato plants growing in the pineapple pot. Must be come sort of symbiotic relationship….
Dwarf Peach Tree (Jan 2012)
15 JanThe dwarf peach tree is the tree that I am most surprised about. I mean, it’s *dwarf* – surely it doesn’t grow! However, if you compare to yesterday, obviously it has grown a lot – particularly when you consider that the tree now lives in one of the LARGE beige containers, not one of the small ones (the lemon and lime have both graduated to the garden proper during the last year or so). No fruit this year (it seems it be a ‘growing’ year instead. I got a whacking great lot of fruit last year, but sadly all except one peach suffered from fruit fly (or similar). I will try and be more prepared next year. I have never pruned the DPT, but plan to do so after the summer finishes.
Baby Trees (October 2009)
14 JanSo I’ve been meaning to take a new set of photos of my fruit trees etc, to document how they’re going and how much they’ve grown. However, it wasn’t until I stumbled on this photo yesterday that I realised just *how* much they’ve grown in the last couple of years. THEY HAVE GROWN SO MUCH! So I look some photos last night and I’ll post them over the next few days. For the record, in the beige pots we have (left to right): lemon, dwarf peach, lime tree, and pineapple. In the front in the tiny blue pot is my olive tree.
81st Street–Museum of Natural History (June 2009)
13 JanThis was my favorite subway station in NY becasue of the fantastic tile mosaics. I passed through it on the A line a lot (my lodgings were on the A line so it was my main subway line), and even got off at the station once just to have a look around. I have more photos here.
